Balance of Teaching Yoga & Working Full Time

Phew, the art of balance can be tough to master. But we know and teach our students that your balance can and will be different everyday. This also goes for balancing life and its many callings. So whether you're struggling to stay balanced into half moon or struggling to stay balanced in juggling the demands of working full time, juggling a family, and being a yoga teacher, this one is for you.
Balance is tough - whichever way you put it. On the mat, it's always "rooting down on one foot", focusing on a drishti point, and engaging your core. But can that apply to life and its many demands? Well, in a way, it can and as someone that is carefully balancing working full time and teaching yoga on the side, just like yoga balancing poses, every day is different.

So, how does one do it? Some tips below:
  1. Staying organized! Having a calendar with time blockers is absolutely key. This allows for an efficient schedule of your time and you know what you're up to in that hour.
  2. Carving out time for your own practice. While I absolutely love teaching, it is nothing with having a personal practice to keep me grounded and humble. Your personal practice is an absolute must if you are a teacher, as it reminds you each time that the practice of yoga can and will continue to teach you many things that apply on and off the mat.
  3. Know when to take a break. This is another key. You can't pour from an empty cup, so it's impossible to be able to give it your all in your classes if you're completely depleted from working full time and teaching on the side. Rest is necessary!
  4. Some days will be tougher than others. Keeping it real here, but some days will feel like sunshine and rainbows, and other days will feel heavy. This is completely normal, it just means you need to give more attention to one thing and less to another. Staying kind to yourself at this time is an absolute must!
  5. Know that you can't do it all. While we all want to be a real life superhero being able to balance everything and look great doing it, sometimes you just need to admit defeat and know that you can't do it all. This might mean cancelling a class and taking a rest day or taking a day off of work to recalibrate. Remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup, so keep yours filled so you can help spread that light to others.
