Music or No Music?

Do you practice/teach yoga with or without music? We find that music pulls in the senses and can make for a beautiful class/practice at home but how do you know what works best for you if you've just started your yoga teacher journey? Read more to see our tips!

If you love music like we do, we wanted to share some tips if you've just started your yoga teacher journey and were looking for some music to flow to with your students!

1. Figure out what style you'll be practicing to set the music to. Is it a slower paced flow you're into? Or is it a more quick-paced vinyasa style? Depending on the type you like to practice, this will determine the type of music you'll set to your classes!
2. Do you get distracted with lyrics? While you practice your sequence, do you tend to get distracted by lyrics or are you able to focus on your cueing? If you're a beginner we suggest going with instrumentals or songs that don't have any lyrics to start - that way you can really focus on your class and cueing everything without trying to sing along.
3. What mood are you trying to set? Whether it is a slow-paced class or a quick-paced one, what is the mood? Try to choose songs that will suit the theme/mood of the class that you're looking to teach. 
4. Variety is the spice of life! Don't be afraid to switch up your playlists for classes! Music is such a beautiful thing in this world and to be able to link breath to movement to a soundtrack feels like such a dream!
