Have you ever felt your back hurting, and not sure why? Lots of factors can contribute to reoccurring back pain. One that we tend to overlook is wearing the wrong size bra. Lack of breast support can lead to lots of different issues, mainly back pain, but others can include breast sagging, breast and shoulder pain, and breast skin damage – also known as stretch marks. How would you know that your bra doesn’t fit properly? Good question! If the straps fall or
hurt along your shoulder, there is a gap in the cup of your bra, the band rides up, or the wires poke or hurt your sides - that’s a sure sign that you would need a bra fitting. Seeking assistance from a professional would help ensure you have the right bra, and most importantly you are comfortable! Lisa from Pinned Up Bra Lounge has been helping women find items they love and most importantly fit them properly. We asked her why someone should get a professional fitting, and here is what she had to say: “I always say getting a bra that actually fits is life changing. Often, we are lead to believe that bras are uncomfortable and painful (wires poking, straps falling, lack of support). But when the bra fits you are most likely not thinking of it except when you put it on in the morning and taking it off at the end of the day. Wired bras are meant to encapsulate all the breast tissue and when it is not fitted the wires are sitting on your breast tissue causing the pain. The band should be snug and low on your back. When it is too loose then the band rides up the back and the front goes down, like a teeter totter. But when all components are correct you get lift and support allowing your clothes to fit and look better. When they fit and look better you feel better, and when you feel better about yourself you are able to tackle your day! It also helps to reduce pull and tension in your neck from your breasts not being supported. When working out a great sports bra will decrease bounce which can cause injury. Did you know that when running your breasts are not just bouncing up and down, they actually move in a figure 8 movement which can lead to injury. Many women resort to wearing their daily bra and then a simple pull over the head sports bra in hopes of getting support but there is no need. Sports bras come in an array of sizing and are specifically designed to support you through a workout. “ Finding the right sports bra to assist your yoga practice is imperative in ensuring your body is supported to avoid any injuries. Staying supported is a promise for you and your yoga journey.
